"The Conjure Woman," is a collection of short stories, connected by a slight thread of narrative, dealing with the folklore of the negroes of central North Carolina. A Northerner and his wife, who have bought a vineyard in that region, are entertained by the stories of their colored coachman, a typical southern negro, whose ingenuity in making the stories serve his own ends adds a touch of humor to the main narrative.
