The author of the five short stories is both young and comparatively new to the public, but he has made not only a beginning, but won a place already among the list of welcome writers of our day. "The Wife of His Youth" became known to the reading public by reason of its publication as a serial, but most of the other stories in the volume are just as good. Especially strong is "A Matter of Principle," which introduces us to Mr. Cicero Clayton, and the "Blue Vein Society."

This volume is in all ways good, with some passages that show actual genius.
