"The Wife of His Youth" is a collection of stories of negro life and character by Charles W. ChestnuttChesnutt. It commands attention because the book is decidedly original cast and because the author is becoming known as a successful writer. The stories tell of colored folk, rich and poor, light and black, cultivated and ignorant, in a style appreciative and delightful. They should be read by those who think negroes are all alike.
