<p>I have your letter of March 24th, and in reply thereto would say that I had been hoping that I would be able to come to you on the date you mention, April 26th, but the condition of my health has been such that my family, consisting of my wife<ref target="n.per00061"/> and daughters,<ref target="n.his00634"/> who have to take care of me when I am ill, think that I should not undertake such a long trip in the spring. I am therefore regretfully compelled to decline your cordial invitation. I regret this exceedingly, as I was looking forward to a pleasant visit to one of the most progressive of the southern schools.</p>

<p>I hope that my inability to come will not mar your program, and shall hope for an opportunity to visit you some time in the not too distant future.<ref target="n.his00679"/></p>

                <salute>With thanks and best wishes,</salute>
