I have your letter of March 24th, and in reply thereto would say that I had been hoping that I would be able to come to you on the date you mention, April 26th, but the condition of my health has been such that my family, consisting of my wife and daughters, who have to take care of me when I am ill, think that I should not undertake such a long trip in the spring. I am therefore regretfully compelled to decline your cordial invitation. I regret this exceedingly, as I was looking forward to a pleasant visit to one of the most progressive of the southern schools.

I hope that my inability to come will not mar your program, and shall hope for an opportunity to visit you some time in the not too distant future.
